This Monday, ImmatureGamer joins us live to talk through your questions and feedback. Fortnite team members Saxs Persson and Kent Rollins will dig into a variety of Fortnite Ecosystem topics.
why was the recent change to the new and updated tab made, i know you have stated that it was so evryone gets a chance but all ive experienced from this change are bad. im struggling to get above 200 ccu in new and updated ever since the change when i used to get 1K+ ccu in new and updated. This is due to the new regional discover change. Which causes lower ccu due to 2 variations. With this lower ccu you wont reach any new tabs from experience. I would personally like to see this change reversed. since 20 min on new and updated doesnt do a map justice.
When is Epic Games going to do something about bad actors on the platform?
Creators that publish copy and paste content
Creators that publish maps and then lure people into their experiences by tricking players to believe they will get vbucks or skins unlocked on their account.
Creators that publish maps and lure people to playing their map by tricking them that they get “MASSIVE EXP GAINS” and then lock coins behind barriers and timers
We would like to know what Epic is doing, as we speak you are paying these bad experiences millions of dollars and even in some cases promoting them in discovery.
Have you ever considered making different versions of weapons when they get entirely new changes in battle royale? Like when a weapon that doesn’t have durability gets it added.
Also, have you considered adding weapons such as the Guided Missile Launcher and Grabitron?
Other UGC platforms like Roblox are known to present official limited-time events, such as “The Hunt”, where the creators of some of the most popular experiences partner directly with the platform (Roblox) to provide players with an engaging challenge with limited time rewards.
Previously, Epic Games hosted similar events with official challenges for limited time cosmetics, such as the “Island Hopper” quests, which involved many popular Fortnite experiences. However, these types of quest events have not returned to the Fortnite Ecosystem since the release of UEFN.
Does Epic Games plan on bringing back official island quest events to bolster the ecosystem?
1. Will anything be done to support long-standing solo creators in the ecosystem who don’t have the social media presence to gain players in the way that Discover now requires to enter tabs?
More tabs like Epic’s Picks? A trusted/quality certification that shows on creator profiles and opens up special callout opportunities, to set them apart from the spam? A badge on Epic’s Picks maps to show players that they’re quality games even after they’re removed from the tab? Or even adjusting the ecosystem to support maps that aren’t able to be promoted externally, so that Discover can do its’ intended job again?
2. Currently, with how the algorithm works by favoring games that bring in players from outside the ecosystem, all that’s being supported are islands that are being promoted in ways that mislead players and break the island creator rules.
What will be done about this? Some games that have been reported as early as Spring last year for doing this are still up.
Scam maps promoting V-Bucks, XP, and skins continue to manipulate younger audiences which keeps damaging the platform’s credibility. Despite existing enforcement measures, these maps still go through daily, and even hit Homebar sometimes… Will Epic consider harsher penalties or more proactive moderation to ensure the ecosystem remains trustworthy and fair for legitimate creators?
The current XP system (Accolades and calibration) has been an issue for a while. It’s way too easy to exploit. Would you ever consider scrapping Accolades and calibration altogether and just making XP based on playtime across all islands? I get that things are complicated on the backend, but there has to be a better way to make XP fairer for both players and creators.
As we’re heading into year 3 of UEFN, it still feels like we’re stuck with a lot of the same limitations. Scene Graph and Custom Items are going to be huge, but when are we going to see features that really open things up—like custom characters, animations, and abilities? Right now, everything still feels tied to Fortnite’s look and mechanics. Will there ever be a push to make UEFN more of a true standalone platform that can bring in new audiences beyond Fortnite’s player base?
Please be more open and communicative, it always feels like we’re talking to a wall… A lot of us want this platform to be the best it can be, but without your help Epic that can’t happen. There should be constant communication between Epic and Creators.
Are there plans to allow us to opt out of UEFN versions, or at least a grace period to upgrade a live map when we choose? If no, what is being done to solve the instability issues from new versions? In game development, we normally can opt out of updates to tools like Unreal Engine so we avoid instability problems and have time to plan for the upgrade / do adequate QA before it goes live. However, in Fortnite, we cannot do this as UEFN updates are mandatory, which can materially break our games and cost us players. Compounded by the Discover challenges, this can mean a map goes from sustainable to zero due to no fault of the developer.
How will Fortnite attract new players to the ecosystem? Related, since even Epic Games is having trouble attracting new players, will Epic revert its change to the engagement payout formula from last year?
Will Epic consider an alternative monetization model? Engagement payouts are an interesting concept, but many have criticized them as being a key contributor to preventing financial stability for third-party creators for several reasons: (1) Epic takes the lion’s share of engagement with its own games, which have an unfair advantage due to early access to tools and control over the marketing within Fortnite; (2) even if a developer finds a niche committed audience, the developer cannot monetize them since payouts are engagement driven; (3) several maps from Creative 1.0 appear to be permanently featured by Discover, taking a majority of what’s left of the engagement pool; and (4) engagement as the KPI for payout has increased the number of bad actors who try to defraud the system (e.g. promises of impossible rewards to a vulnerable audience, XP earning games, fast copies at high volume, botting, etc).
List item Will the Midas drum gun come back in its Og status in Fortnite creative or UEFN? my friend is really hyped a want to ask but is in Italy (Ghost-Midas__) right now! I mean we have all the drum guns of Midas but not the Og one. I mean… you guys used it for the snoop dog drum gun aswell!
What can be done about the exponentially growing population of bad actors who resell assets, bait players, or steal IP? The ecosystem is unfair for those who play by the rules.
Will security measures be created to prevent bad actors from stealing assets from games?
Do you think we will be get runtime virtualized textures in UEFN?
I don’t quite know what to call them, but will uefn get structure textures/materials with nanite? (An example could be how battle royale has some brick walls with 3d depth)
