Landscape Sculpting Lighting Problem

Anytime I try to sculpt out our landscape, the immediate area turns solid black.

I’ve attached before and after photos so you can see the issue at hand. This is causing a huge hitch in our production, so I’d appreciate any help I can get.

Have you already rebuild the light + could you post a screenshot of your material?

I have LPV enabled so there is no lighting to be built. We did do it with baked lighting enabled before but it would do the exact same thing and it would turn black literally every time you sculpted. Also, I’m not trying to paint, I’m editing the terrain. There is no material involved.

Hmm, as far as I can see there is a material on your landscape ^^ (otherwise it wont be blue) -> adding a material + painting onto the landscape will solve your problem, because I think that it isn’t a light problem

There is one big color map on the terrain that was made in World Machine along with the terrain. I’m trying to edit the terrain to our liking so I can export out the .raw and import that back into WM so I can export new splatmaps so I can make my final landscape material inside of UE4.

I’m not sure if this can help. Are the materials showing up in landscape editor, eg. Grass_01,Dirt01,…I had it sometimes that the material would be black.
So when you would paint… it would show black. Just check this too.

Like I said before, the material is just ONE color map imported from WM. It also does this on the mountain landscape level but to a lesser extent. So it’s not just my materials. I am not trying to paint materials onto the landscape, I’m trying to sculpt terrain. I’m not sure why people aren’t getting that.

We know that, but the black spot is a material problem and has probably nothing to do with lightning  -> so try out:

-reapply the material
-paint another texture onto that spot

It wasn’t a material problem, actually. It was a problem with the sun spotlight, so yeah, it was a lighting problem. Anyway, this thread can be closed.

Could you proabably post what exactly you have done to solve it?

I had time set to night through a blueprint and through the manual placement of the sun. So I rotated it to be in the middle of the sky and raised its brightness up as high as it could go. It’s just a workaround for what I need right now. All I want to do is sculpt the terrain to my liking, export the heightmap out of UE and into World Machine. Then I can make my individual color/splat maps and then finally finish my landscape material. But thanks for you help!
