Landscape Materials Limit?

So, from what I understand. Unreal has a limit of the amount of materials that can be used in a component before it turns gray and fails completely. The limit is said to be 16, however I have never been able to go above 5 maybe 6 at one time? but usually anything after 4 is dead.

Is there a special trick to painting landscapes that i just haven’t figured out? is the limit ever going to be removed?
