This could be due to a lot of reasons, if your system is running low on resources such as RAM or CPU power, it can cause lag or slow downs. Same thing goes with your CPU. If your GPU is not powerful enough to handle the graphics demands of your system, you may experience lag as well.
If you are using a laptop, overheating can cause performance issues and affect stability, leading to lag or slow downs.
If you have a good PC, try to verify the Unreal Engine files or reinstall the engine. However, this is most likely a hardware or driver issue.
Are you using a AMD GPU? Disabling a smart setting fixed it for me
