Island reverted to sample project after update and reformat?

This is crosspost, I think this section is better probably.

Hi, I took a few weeks off because I had some issues with my office ac and in the meantime I also reformatted my pc and did a fresh install of windows 10. Now I am having a few issues; I’m not sure if its related to my pc or if its an issue with the UEFN Ecosystem, because there was an Ecosystem update right before this.

My island seems to be a very old outdated version. Its missing all the features I put there. PLEASE HELP. I’ve put dozens of hours into this map. Its a very old version. I don’t have any idea what to do.

I have disabled one drive and deleted the folder, but when I first opened the project I was getting an error about it. After that I reinstalled UEFN but my project is still outdated. I have the right team selected. Plz halp.

EDIT: All my projects are like this. They all seem to be just the template island I started with and nothing modified at all. So frustrating.

Thank you for your report! We would like to look into this further, would you be able to submit a bug report using the form available here? Fortnite Creative

yes but do you know how I can use unreal revision control to bring my projects back?

this is what my revision control log looks like

I followed a this guide which explains how to revert changes with unreal revision control, and this is the result I am getting from powershell.

PS C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Fortnite Projects\troofth_gungame> urc p s list

Clearly, the problem is not on my end. It shows the initial snapshot made early in July, long before I reformatted my PC, and no changes made after that. I am literally going to cry, I put hundreds of hours into seven different maps that had thousands of concurrent players. I am at a total loss.

Hello,

The Powershell output you provided shows there is only a single snapshot in your project. This is the Initial snapshot that is automatically created when you created your project.

Unreal Revision Control does NOT create automatic snapshots of your project after the first one - you are responsible for doing that.

When you want to make a ‘backup’ of your project, you need to make additional snapshots by clicking on the ‘Check In Changes’ button on the bottom right of your editor, provide a suitable snapshot message and then your files will be stored in Unreal Revision Control.

Afterwards, you can then revert to one of these snapshots.

The Powershell output shows you created no additional snapshots unfortunately, so no additional data can be retrieved from Unreal Revision Control.

So when this window says v113, but my revision control shows snapshot 1, there is nothing I can do? Is there any explanation for why every single one of my projects have been completely lost, or how I can avoid this in the future? Because my islands are still live and updated on Fortnite, and I can play them, but I cannot open the latest version in UEFN.

I don’t understand how the island is available to play, but not edit.

@TTVTROOFTH The best way to avoid this situation in the future is to check in your changes frequently to ensure your project is regularly backed up in revision control. We’ll also be implementing periodic in-editor reminders to do so if we recognize it has been a while between check-ins.

Here is some more information about Unreal Revision Control and URC best practices.

We’re still investigating whether there is anything we can do to re-generate editable UEFN project files from the published versions of your projects.

In the meantime, can you provide the project IDs for the 7 projects you mention for which you don’t have backups?

You can find the project IDs in the URL for a given project on the project’s page in your Creator Portal.

Hi gxg_work, I appreciate your response, and I do understand what I did wrong here. I misunderstood the way to keep projects backed up, I assumed published projects would be included in unreal revision control.

I would be glad to supply you with those ID’s, and I am overjoyed that your team is willing to look into the issue! I finally started working on some new projects today since rebuilding those seems like something I just don’t have the patience for, but they are really great and I would love to update them for the current meta! I have two codes listed below which are my core islands which I worked the hardest on. The other ones had a lot of bugs and some I even unlisted or reverted after being published.

Thanks so much! I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have more information.

@TTVTROOFTH I’m following up with you in Discord to walk you through next steps.

Hello @gxg_work , I am having the exact same problem after my computer crashed and my Windows profile got corrupted, lost all my files. Once I logged into a new profile and opened my project it reverted to the first snapshot. I was unaware that the “Check in Changes” button was for making backup snapshots. I just assumed revision control did it automatically after uploading the project. My map is also live https://create.fortnite.com/3b778b24-80a2-457f-91e8-fdc83f557692/projects/e1997140-444e-23a8-7771-b887cdb6769e/releases Please let me know if I am able to get it back.
