Island count stuck at 46 / 50 in 1.0

Summary

For some reason, my Island Number has gotten permanently stuck at 46/50 islands, and I am unable to go past 46. I have counted my islands as well and have confirmed I indeed have 46 islands only, so it’s not just a visual glitch, attempting to create an island results in this error:

This issue has been happening to me for the past 1-2 years, I’m not exactly sure how this has happened but I suspect it to be a combinations of problems.

Steps to Reproduce

I am unsure of exactly how to reproduce this, it seems to happen randomly, but from what I have gathered from other users some causes of this could be all of the following:

  • Converting an island to UEFN without deleting it causes this
  • Invisible Creative Royale islands cause this
  • (Unconfirmed) Archiving 1.0 islands via create.fortnite.com/personal/projects i believe can also cause this

It is worth noting however that I haven’t done almost any of the above recently, and the glitched maximum islands count i can have have gone down from 47 to 46.

Expected Result

Island counts should be able to reach 50/50 whenever no matter what

Observed Result

Stuck at 46/50, creating new islands does not work, throws error.

Additional Notes

I am not 100% sure as to how to reproduce this, this will require a lot more troubleshooting & testing on Epic’s end as I am completely in the dark as to how this happens, why this happens, and when this happens

Did you by any chance upgrade your maps to UEFN islands?
OR
Use the Archive feature in the creator portal/Content Service?

I believe so a few times back in 2024, however I haven’t touched UEFN or archiving islands at all in recent times & the maximum islands it lets me create has gone down from 47 to 46.

EDIT: Logging on today, apparently I can only create 45 now. No clue what happened, didn’t touch UEFN at all, only recovered & maybe deleted a few islands yesterday (not even sure if I deleted any).

Archiving an island will remove it from your islands and not show it even when unarchived.
Same goes for UEFN if you upgrade an Island from FNC to UEFN it will not show in your FNC island list but it WILL count towards that limit.

Very strange bug but makes sense, I do recall archiving and converting ~3 islands a year back which is what resulted in the initial 47 limit I had. That wouldn’t explain how this issue happened recently though, as I haven’t touched archiving or converting islands at all recently as mentioned earlier and it’s managed to go down to 45.

This old announcement mentioned that islands can be removed from the island picker/gold rift if it has its star removed from the content service, worth a shot I guess to look for any islands that maybe archived,un-archive them then re-add the star.

You can click the star next to the maps name to Re-Star it if it’s unstarred.

Also I don’t think this is a bug but moreso the fact that your islands still utilize your slots, given that unlike deleting maps archiving still “keeps” them, same goes for Converting from FNC to UEFN at any point you can revert it back to FNC so it’s taking a slot.

Thank you so much for your help!

turns out I did in fact have ~3 islands converted from FNC to UEFN that I completely forgot about, which helped mitigate the issue somewhat. I also went through a majority of my islands in the content service page, and with enough trial & error (adding & removing stars from random maps) I managed to bring up my maximum all the way up to 50 again!

I had no idea that star system even existed until now, so thanks again!
