Is it too draining?

Hi

i have just bought a new HTC Vive, and it didn’t take long before thinking of making a game in it.

My (very simple) game, is just featuring a world with simple plane, with starter material as a ground, 4 cube towers with simple materials, and a function with a switch between hand and a rather low poly weapon.
When testing the game in VR mode, it doesn’t take long for the computer to completely crash, with me needing to hard reset it.

I currently have a computer with the HTC official recommended requirements, with 16 GB ram instead of 4.

Is the crashing caused by the combined useage of the Vive along with UE4 that is too much for a GTX 1060 to handle, or should i look in another direction to find the cause of the problem?

Cheers

This sounds 100% like it’s a video card drivers problem. Update your NVidia drivers. Test again. Look at your system event log to see what error messages your OS generated right before the crash.

Keep in mind, sometimes the newest drivers can also be faulty! I had a case where I had to roll back my display drivers to an older version and had to try about 3-4 different versions of driver until I could find one which worked. I’m currently using 368.39 for my drivers and have no problems with Vive and complex VR scenes, and I’m running a GTX 970. If all else fails, try using that driver version.
