Is it common to rely on outside development for your materials?

Greetings,

One of my main issues I have always struggled with is the ability to create my own materials. I know how to do basic materials but they just don’t really look very good. I’ve done a lot of the tutorials in udemy and while I understand basic concepts, I still couldn’t really go about making materials from scratch look anywhere near as good as presented in those courses (without help).

That said - is it common to just surf the marketplace and find materials that are already done for you instead of having to make a ton of materials on your own?

What type of resources do you guys use for your textures and materials?

It depends on what you’re using materials for. You can use a library of materials for things like environments, but for characters or props you have to create them specifically for that object.
