My 8th gen iPad is now refusing to initialize the LiveLink face capture app, please see screen grab. it has worked perfectly before. The model number is MYLD2B/A
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
Any thoughts?
I think the latest release for the LiveLinkFace app might be broken, I have a Blender plugin that lets me stream the animation data and since either 1.3.0 or 1.3.1, the data contained in the network stream seems corrupted (I looked at the UDP dump).
I’m about to check whether it still works in Live Link mode in Unreal Engine itself, but I think this might be worth flagging on the Issues tracker.
Thanks for responding, I will report it to support.
Hi!
Thanks for the bug report. We’re sorry to hear you’re having issues using the app.
If you are happy to do so could you please retrieve the Live Link Face application logs from the iPad in question and send them to me via direct message? This may shed some light on the issue.
To access the logs, navigate to the Settings screen within the Live Link Face application and scroll to the bottom. Under the ‘DEVELOPER’ section there should be an option to ‘Export Log Archive’. Once selected you can choose a suitable method to transfer the log files from the iPad via the standard iOS share sheet.
The log archive will likely contain multiple log files so feel free to limit what you send to a single log file which was recorded when the problem occurred.
Thanks!
Thanks for supplying the log file @Matt_Howarth.
Unfortunately I haven’t managed to fully re-produce your problem but there are a couple of things you can try.
Camera Restrictions
The error in the log you provided: The application is not authorized to capture video data
can also occur if there are any camera restrictions in place on the device. To check this in the Settings app navigate to ‘Screen Time’ → ‘Content & Privacy Restrictions’ → ‘Allowed Apps’ and check the setting for ‘Camera’. If that is off and you turn it on you will need to kill and restart the Live Link Face app in order to apply the change.
This restriction can also be applied by an IT department if your iPad happens to be a company owned device.
Cached Permission Data
Permission data is cached on the device at an operating system level. In case there is an issue with this cache it might be worth trying to delete the app, restarting your iPad and then re-installing the application.
Please let me know how you get on.
Robert.
Hi Robert, thanks for the prompt response. Unfortunately, the camera was already switched on in the screen time settings. Also deleting the app, rebooting the iPad and then reinstalling the app didn’t have any effect. I didn’t say before, but it’s the ARkit option that is refusing to initialize (my iPad doesn’t have a True Depth camera). Thanks again for looking into this for us.
Hi Matt,
Thanks for giving those steps a try. I’m sorry that they didn’t resolve the issue.
This issue is going to require a little more investigation which unfortunately means I don’t have a solution for you at the moment.
I will try to let you know when I have more information.
Thanks.
Thanks for your continued efforts Robert, I look forward to a resolution
Hi @Matt_Howarth,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
I’ve now had a chance to look into this a little further and I have something else for you to try.
In the Live Link Face settings screen, try setting the ‘Target Frame Rate’ value to 30 FPS instead of 60 FPS. Based on my testing, the iPad 8th Generation does not support 60 FPS ARKit capture.
Please let me know how you get on.
Kind regards,
Robert.
