Hey we were nervous about sending in our application but we finally got it sent. We have a pre-alpha available for download and we are on steam trying to get greenlit (and nearly there) and we are on kickstarter as well trying to get funded.
Has anyone received a notification of any kind that their project wasn’t selected? I’m still curious how we are supposed to know if we need to resubmit?
Hey man! Good to hear from you Just to give a little insight to where things stand - we’re nearly through the pre-GDC/GDC timeframe applicants that did not receive an auto-response from Epic, but it’s unlikely that we’ll be able to follow up with from that range of time due to the sheer volume of submissions that rolled through around the time we launched. We’re stoked that the program has had such popularity with the community and wish we could give a meaningful response, it’s just not something that’s feasible for us to do, unfortunately…
You might be wondering: Why so long to review? I’ll try to shed a little light on the situation there - When we launched, we probably weren’t explicit enough on what the qualifications for Unreal Dev Grants were and had no F.A.Q.s for developers to refer to, resulting in a lot of applications that were outside of the bounds of what we could accept as a valid candidate. For us, this made for quite a lot of reading and research into hundreds of submissions that aren’t built in Unreal Engine 4 or are simply just an idea with no working prototype / anything built. The introduction of the F.A.Q.s and having more open discussions about the Unreal Dev Grants has led to a reasonable drop in the number of ineligible submissions. These are things we should have had at the launch of the program but were so eager to share it with as soon as we could. Moving forward, turn-around will be significantly quicker.
I’d certainly encourage anyone who submitted during those couple weeks and has made progress on their projects to submit again, as we’re catching up as soon as we can!
Hope that helps, !
BTW: Good luck with the sale ! Tell Texas I say hello
Hey , likewise! =) My submission is in that period, so fingers crossed. =P Since you guys aren’t able to contact people individually due to the volume of submissions, do you think it would be possible to include in the award announcements a date that you have reviewed up to? i.e. “all submissions up to 2/26/15 have been reviewed”. That way those submitted by that date and weren’t picked could know, and then evaluate how to improve for their next submission attempt. Just a thought, if it were something you guys might consider doing.
Thanks for the info, . I have submitted after GDC and now I know my submission simply hadn’t been looked at yet - this is good to know! Keep up the great work! (but work faster )
Hey Boura! Projects have to be to at least at the prototype phase and in Unreal Engine 4 for consideration. If yours doesn’t meet those criteria, then we’d encourage you to submit again once you’ve got something together
Thanks for the information ! If I may, then as a suggestion some information about which batch of applications you are working on will help alleviate some of the anxiety of the applicants. For example, you could have periodic updates somewhere on the website of the form : Now looking at applications submitted between a-b days of month x. Just an idea, not sure if it is feasible or not Anyhow keep up the good work !
We’re glad that is excited to show off their great work! I wanted to chime in and reiterate that this thread isn’t for sending in your submissions, but to discuss the program itself. If you’ve submitted and want to let us know here, feel free! However, if you feel the need to put up an entire post worth of your project’s contents, it’s probably better to drop those into the known arenas for sharing work - Released Projects, Community Content, Work In Progress - so the folks that frequent those can see how awesome your work is!
I hope there is still sometime. I submitted stuff for the fighting game my company is working on though we had a minor set back and lost some data and I a, in the middle of moving but should have stuff to show in a couple weeks. Though it was kind of a blessing in disguise cause it helped clean up a lot of junk files and such from updating prior builds etc etc. I am really looking forward to showing the new stuff that has been done. Hopefully it will be enough for consideration so I can at least pay my employees something.
*** This thread needs cleaning up, so much stuff here it lags my computer worse than a AAAA Title using wide open Graphics Options. it’s just too much! I think all should link to these other forum topics like you said, . everything else needs to go. ***
and - I hope they do wait & take their time with this program, they seem to be. So far I couldn’t disagree with any of their choices though, so far there’s been wide variety of projects, all showing off the engine very well.
Not sure how much some of them actually ‘Need’ help. Because the more I do & the more I see I need, I think if need was the only criteria I believe I’d place very highly. lol
Either way I am glad to see Epic giving out Grants and I think it’s a much needed program that should help many now & in the near future.
I would love to see it continue into the future some way tho’, cuz all need LUV! lol
Could you give us a “tip” about where are you on the submission stack “today”?
Sort of top application sent date, applications left…
Since you said that will not answer to all submissions, the only tool that some of us have to get an idea if was already evaluated (and of course we are curious about being picked/rejected, if our projects did please you or not, if we need to improve and try again…) is Analytics from , looking for views from NC.
Looks like you need more than one month to reach an application due to the overwhelming number of them, so an estimate could be handy…
I sent my project information three months ago and I have no idea if it has been revised.
One question: My project is under development and has many changes and improvements as well as new articles and a thread in the forums since I sent the message to the Unreal dev grants e-mail, can I send a new Message with updated data and more information again?
