In Cascade why are my materials not appearing in "Lit" view mode?

Hi,

Am just starting with Particle Effects and am unable to see any of the materials selected to use as a particle in Lit mode. The particles are visible in Wireframe and Unlit but not in Lit; what am I missing?

Thanks,

Hi Roddy,

I’ll be glad to see if I can help point you in the right direction. We have some documentation on Cascade (link here) that may assist you in familiarizing you with the abundance of settings that are possible.

A really decent tutorial dealing with VFX and setting up your particle can be found in the tutorial section of our Wiki page (Link Here).

It is possible that something in the material is not properly set up. If you don’t find your what you’re looking for feel free to post a pic of your particle setup and your material nodes.

As this is a community driven area it will give other users the opportunity to chime in and also help those who may have had similar issues.

Thanks!
Tim

Thanks for getting back to me; the materials used are those supplied within the Starter Content and have tried it on both Mac and Windows (have given up with Mac due to UI issues and it kept crashing).
I have read through the Cascade documentation though I have no background in what the terminology for particles are and most tutorials seem to assume (fairly) some background knowledge. Will try the Visual Effects lesson again and see if I can find the issue.

Have you tried holding down the L key and RMouse then dragging in the viewport and moving the light around in Cascade? Perhaps your light is just in a location that is completely shadowing your particle?

Do you have bounds set to something other than 0,0,0? You want to use fixed bounds which all of your sprites fit inside of, otherwise you can get very odd lighting results as well.

Thanks for the response; I can see some materials in Unlit but not all and I can always see them in wire mesh. I will check the lighting although I don’t recall any options for light positioning in the viewport.

there isn’t a “visible” light actor in the viewport, you just hold down L and RClick and drag around and the light position moves in the world.

It also works like this in the static mesh viewer and material editor.
