Improving my moss material function.

So I have this moss material that I’m so far pretty happy with, it blends in on the top based on the normals on the rock automatically, but It lacks something.

While searching for examples,I found this.

Here you can see that the person made the edge drop a shadow to make it “pop” on top of the rock. Currently my moss looks looks embedded into the rock instead, and I believe making it look more like it’s growing on top of it with some thickness to it really would add to it.

But while the user shows some parts of the material, this part in particular seems to be left out, do you have any suggestions on how to replicate this part?
