Hello, I have a good C programming background and work for a silicon vendor as an applications engineer. Just have no idea when it comes to games engines etc…
I am working on a personal project that will scan an area of interest using a laser, mainly buildings and other fixed objects of interest. I also have a thermal camera that can detect heat signatures in this area of interest. I will be able to generate a point cloud file from this data ready for expert into another package.
I would like to render this data into a solid model OR Spatial disparity map and to be able to pan around and zoom in and out of this generated model. If possible also to be able to overlay a moving icon into the scene that is picked up by the thermal camera and imaging camera with object detection.
Prior to jumping into Unreal Engine and expending all the required effort can the members please offer me some much valued advice on if I am going in the right direction in considering unreal engine. My embedded coding and electronic ability is fine however have little or no experience in graphics engines etc.
Any proactive comments would really be appreciated and appreciate any help or suggestions.
Cheers
