Idlewild - Deep Pixel Studio

Check out my short teaser for Idlewild, a sustainable wilderness retreat designed for mental well-being and meditation. The project incorporates nature and responsive kinetic architecture as a beacon of hope and a safe space for reflection.

Designed, modelled and animated by Ross Gribben from Deep Pixel Studio.

Hey there @ruigol !

The scenery with this one is so genuinely beautiful. The animation is also so mesmerizing to watch that I think I looped the video a good few times to make sure I saw it all.

The concept of such a spot existing is such a lovely idea and I know I’d certainly would love to meditate in a spot such as this one. You did really well with bringing appeal to the idea and making it feel real!

Hi there @ruigol,

Hope you’re well and having a great week so far.

First, I have to say this project is absolutely stunning. The tile flooring, sun rays, and forest all combine into a truly stunning environment. The music is also incredibly fitting and piercing. How long did you work on this project?

That’s very kind of you to say  The unreal scene only took me about a day. Materiality was done in substance painter and took me a couple of hours. The modelling was done in Rhino and then rigged in Blender. Rigging probably took me the longest since it was the first thing I’ve ever rigged. Coding in Unreal didn’t take that long (there is an interactive demo that is playable) Hope you’re having a great week too!

Oh wow. Such a short amount of time for something I’d describe as rather beautiful. Did something specific inspire this projects creation?

Also, thanks for sharing

Haha, if only eveything was so simple  Ah yes it was actually, the project was designed as part of my master’s degree at the Bartlett School of Architecture in regard to mental well-being and treating memory disorders such as PTSD and Alzheimer’s disease. At that time, the design was static and only moved in a Grasshopper script. When I finished and started my studio I decided to recreate it and animate it for real because I believed in what it stood for, spaces that have emotion and connect with nature. I’m not very good at sharing my work but hopefully these projects will find their feet in the community :crossed_fingers: :dizzy:

Really meaningful message - I’m glad we all got the opportunity to experience it. I’m glad you took the time to recreate it

I love the trees! Did you make them yourself or you downloaded it from somewhere?

@KapitanMat3o1 The trees (from memory) are from The Forest by Vertex Interactive

Fantastic concept and design of materials! It really looks like a safe and inspiring place for an overnight retreat and meditation.

Beautiful concept @ruigol! Interestingly enough, through my YouTube recommendations, I had come across your short teaser for Idlewild before. There’s no telling how long ago now, though.

I am as blown away now by your stunning short animation as I was then. Thank you for sharing Idlewild with the rest of the community in the forums!
