I want hard shadows, but have no idea how

For a cartoony look I was hoping there was a simple way to disable all soft shadows. I know I can reduce all lights to a single dot which will fix it some, but not remove it completely, and almost no effect with far away lights, such as the sun. I have googled the concept for a while now but only find people complaining about shadow quality and no way to remove soft shadows. I would hope there is some setting combination that allows for it or a way for blueprints or post processing to help fake it.

Also as a bonus, whatever method is done, is it better for performance too? just hoping to get lucky here, not a requirement.

In your light’s details panel you can locate the option for Shadow Filter Sharpen. this will do just that. it will tighten up the edges of your shadows.

Let me know if that works for you or if you have any trouble.

Worked perfect, UE4 help is the best!!!

Is this setting available in U5.2?

is this setting available in UEFN?

Hey,

in my IOS Game Project, i need also very hard toon Shadows, but has the Problem that I used a orthographic / perspective Camera with only 10 fob and also a very high distance between 10.000 and 15.000. The Shadows are very soft. Are they any solution to make them sharp and toony? I also don’t need dynamic lighting in this game.

Thanks
