Summary
I’m having trouble publishing my first island — most likely because of the IARC questionnaire. I’d really appreciate any help figuring out what I’m doing wrong.
I’ve received 6 rejections after submitting my island for review. Four of the emails had no details at all, and two of them mentioned this:
"1.18 Island Content Disclosures - When answering the IARC Age Rating Questionnaire, you are required to accurately disclose relevant content within your Island in order to receive the correct age ratings.
- The content within your creative island
- The promotional video"
I’ve tried filling out the IARC questionnaire in different ways each time, but the island keeps getting rejected.
If anyone has faced a similar problem or sees an obvious issue, please let me know what I need to fix to pass the review.
Thank you in advance!

Additional Notes
About my island:
It’s a free-for-all PvP map. Kind of like The Pit, but instead of an open arena, it’s a constantly changing maze. Players can buy weapons. There are some light Halloween decorations (pumpkins, spider webs). The only “scary” elements are gunfire sounds and a short “Halloween laugh.” I’m attaching a short gameplay video.
Hello, Welcome to the Forums. Map looks good!
Is the Gameplay Video you linked the same one you’re using for Trailer/”promotional video”?
Thanks for showing a vid of how you’re filling out IARC. (I usually put ‘no’ for fierce sounds/dark overtones)
I don’t see anything wrong with how you’re filling it out. (‘T’ rating seems reasonable, whereas if you were getting an E rating that would be wrong)
I wonder if you choose ‘realistic’ violence against humans, and ‘No’ for pixelated/childlike style, if you would still get a T rating. (I’d still consider the reactions “unrealistic” though)
In the creator portal, when you view your list of submission/rejections - you can click on the ‘Failed’ button and there is sometimes screenshots added (which would not appear in the email)
Have you tried appealing any of the rejections?
Thanks for your reply! I’m honestly starting to lose hope about getting the island published. It’s been rejected over 10 times already. I’ve tried every possible combination when filling out the IARC questionnaire. When I click the Failed button, it always opens a window with the commandlet_error message.
Yes, I used the same video. But in about 50% of the attempts, I didn’t attach it at all—just to rule it out as a possible reason for the rejection.
I’ve tried appealing once, and they pointed out an IARC issue. But I’ve redone the questionnaire so many times, even hired a freelancer to do it for me. Around 15 total attempts, all rejected. So maybe it’s not even about IARC anymore—but I have no idea what else it could be. I also removed all non-UEFN content (there was just one grass texture and one stone wall movement sound), but that didn’t help either.
There’s one thing I suspect might be connected. After the Halloween update, I (and other creators) started getting a warning every time we saved the scene — saying the saved asset supposedly uses Experimental Features, even though I didn’t add anything like that, and all experimental features are turned off in the project settings. I saw an Epic Games community manager confirm on the forums that they’re aware of this issue and that it shouldn’t prevent islands from being published. So I decided to ignore it. But this problem also appears in newly created projects, so maybe that bug somehow interferes. Still, the system allows submission for review.
I wouldn’t worry about the ‘Experimental Features’ popups. You would get stopped on the first page of publishing submission (where it does all the checks) if experimental features were actually on.
The commandlet_error is more troubling though. There are many creators who are currently having trouble publishing due to this error. - One solution for that may be deleting + re-adding the IslandSettings device. (Make note of any modified settings first though, there is a filter for this) - although in other creators case I think they just see “commandlet_error” as reason for rejection with no mention of IARC…
There may be some weirdness coming from IARC due to the fact that you are in Russia? (I notice Cyrillic characters in your gameplay video) Whenever I publish a ‘T’ rated map, it always restricts Russian region. (Which is confusing to me since my maps usually contain less violence than Battle Royale itself). So it’s interesting to see that no restriction appears for you. - This also makes me wonder if Russian Creators are restricted to making ‘E’ rated things…
I’d try appealing again - Explain that you are having trouble and have filled out IARC with honesty.
Thank you so much! The solution with deleting and re-adding the Island Settings really worked. My island is published!
