I searched this morning with a simple request for handbags. Although there were a few handbags at the top of the search, as you can see by the screenshot, scrolling down slightly the search threw up sandbags, lots of them. After scrolling passed all them there were more handbags.
Looking forward to the search function being fixed.
I would have posted this in Issues and bugs. But I canāt post IMGās as an example. soā¦
ā¦Two days since first posting and Itās not any better. On the plus side there were more bags above these Lady of the night, Barbed wire, inventory sounds and other random entries.
Hi @Satintribe . Thanks for sharing that - the team made some improvements to search last week and is continuing to iterate to get it to a better place. Thanks for your patience - Iāve passed the example that you provided to the team.
So 7 days since I first posted and 5 since Abby passed on the examples I gave.
Things have got a tiny bit better at the top of the search, but after just a little scroll itās all still random entries (Screenshot taken just now).
I have used the same search example.
Spot the handbagā¦
While Iām talking about the search function Iād like to see some randomisation to the top entries.
They are always the same. Iām not complaining because none of mine are ever at the top, Iām complaining because, fairness for all.
But back to the search functionā¦I appreciate that
Iām beginning to think you might be right!
Itās been two weeks now since I first posted about this. Iāve just taken some screen shots with the same search title and itās still ā¦
At least it has rock in itā¦we can consider that a good result!
Although, Iām a little worried about the search algo! It seems if you search handbag, among other things, youāll get a Lady of the night and Girl-Provocation. It seems the search engine equates handbags with a certain type of woman
Weāre going to continue tweaking the search algorithm over time. Itās not an exact science and this is not an issue that is ābrokenā vs āfixedā - we need to keep checking results and making small improvements.
For now, Iād recommend drilling into specific categories and sub-categories to help find what you need. For the ārockā example, going down to Nature & Plants returns rocks as expected:
Indeed, we definitely need to improve search results like this.
Can you elaborate on this? Even with top-level search not being as good as it could be, are you missing filters or categories that would let you better find what youāre looking for?
For example, ārockā query under 3D Models ā Nature & Plants, with C4D, OBJ, and FBX formats selected. Are those not useable in C4D?
@PadreZippo sorry that 2nd point wasnāt related to ārockā but Fab as a whole.
Letās go with ācliffā as a broader example. At a top level this gives me everything for all DCCās, so I then have to select the exchange formats (fbx, obj, etc).
Why canāt this be a preference at the account level so I can filter EVERYTHING out that isnāt applicable to meā¦? Having to do this for every search is cumbersome and seems not thought through. Plus seeing all the irrelevant content has Fab feeling very messy.
Furthermore if I want to filter out Quixel assets to see alternate uploads there is no way to do that. Quixel needs its own seperate portal, all pro vendors need their own portal.
Weāre definitely thinking about making more search filters persist throughout a session (similar to the Mature filter selection), and/or adding more account-level settings to this effect.
Weāre planning to add filter by publisher, as well as filtering out already owned assets. We also want to make it easier to see at a glance the publishers in the results as you scroll (e.g. the avatar and publisher name persistent, rather than just an avatar on hover). Although I havenāt heard this specific need to filter out a seller.
@PadreZippo if I go into the last point more, Quixel assets are in the hundreds in some key categories.
Letās say I want to search for scans that existed previously on Sketchfab, with the amount of Quixel assets all alternate assets are quite tricky to find (rocks for example)
Excluding Quixel from this search would help a lot (itās one of the only examples I can think of where an exclusion would be helpful)
The ability to follow or filter out specific seller is quite frequently asked for in the forum. (example: Allow self moderation/filtering - it can help with overall moderation.). Moreover, we need full-featured ban lists for sellers to get rid of AI scam and stolen content as Fab lets it in. If you didnāt see those requests then your āI share that with teamā bots are not well-programmed.
And finally, learn how to sort search results by datetime (āNewestā) - itās coming from āfunnyā to āridiculousā as rate of publishing of new assets increases.
I just checked how the search function was performing using the same search title Iāve been using.
I could have posted some screen shoots, but they would have been almost exactly the same as I have posted over the last 3 weeks.
Could I suggest that some larger improvements are made, because those small improvements just arenāt doing it!
