I recently formatted my entire computer and now when I reinstall fortnite and the unreal editor for fornite my projects are gone and I can only modify an old version of the map that is on the server. What can I do to be able to edit the most recent version of my map that I published in unreal?
Steps to Reproduce
formatted, deleting the unreal engine island project file for fortnite from the computer.
Expected Result
it is possible to recover the file and access the island through the unreal engine program for fortnite.
Observed Result
the island is converted from an old version on epic games’ servers, but in the version of creative 1.0
Platform(s)
PC
Island Code
7612-9572-5726
Additional Notes
I would very much like to be able to recover the project of my island to continue with the modifications I intend to make, unfortunately I did not pay attention to the project file and lost it in the process, but I hope it is possible to do something.
this happened to me as well except my ssd went bad and turned into a raw file system. i took it out of my pc immediatley as to not accidentally write over the data (something I think OP might have already done im afraid) but even still- since uefn/ue have such a weird way of storing a little asset in this folder a little asset in that folder, combined with the oddball file containers used (.uplugin, .uasset, .pak, ect) several data recovery places said im out of luck. Apparently if you are recovering common file types (.mp3, .wave. .jpg, ect) it is alot easier but the circumstances with uefn make it almost impossible. Since then i have been very strict on using URC.
The Check-in warning needs to have more alarming details, especially for a users first few projects, there are a lot of posts where people don’t realise its importance.
Maybe publishing should automatically create a snapshot too.
