what ios are you using?

Hi the creator of games,

We are going to need some more information.

  • Post a copy of your system specs

Windows: Go to the Start menu and type ‘dxdiag’ into the search bar. Open that file and then click ‘Save All Information’. Post that text file here.

Mac: Go to the Apple menu and click ‘About This Mac’.

  • How are you trying to open the editor? By pressing the Launch button in the Launcher or the UE4Editor.exe directly?

  • Where in the process does it crash?

i ran Gforce experience and found my specs there here they are:

GPU: GeForce GT 555m
CPU: Intel(R) Core™ i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
Memory: 8GB RAM (7.95 usable)

and this is from control panel:
system type: 64-bit Operating System

It is a laptop by Lenovo

i also open the editor through the launcher and it crashes almost imediatly

Are you running Windows 7 or 8?

Also, try bypassing the Launcher completely by opening the .exe directly and let me know if it still crashes.

Your file path my differ slightly:

C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\4.7\Engine\Binaries\Win64\UE4Editor.exe

windows 7 and i cannot find the exe

also if it is any help i installed the engine through the launcher and i have tried re-installing the software

If you look up your ‘dxdiag’ like I mentioned above, does it list Windows Service Pack 1? It should be beside of or below where it lists your operating system.

no it does not

Okay, that is likely the issue. SP1 is required for Windows 7 in order to run the editor properly. Try downloading that and see if the editor will run for you then.

what is it ?

OH LOL it does not say it in DXDIAG but it does say it has it already under control panel

i dont know if this is any use to you but one time i used it i managed to create a project. When i launched it it said ERROR trying to allocate a rendering resource

If you definitely have SP1, the next thing to check is your graphics card driver. Make sure it is up to date and don’t use the beta driver, they can sometimes be unstable.

OK i have geforce experience already installed and it has no new updates and yes it is on normal updates not the beta ones

i do have game maker studio on my computer would that cause problems?

also it does not crash immediately since i was able to create a project now it only crashes if i try to make a new one (same error)

i also have a different but related problem. Occasional(rarely) the program will work and not crash BUT when i create a project it just says out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource

It sounds like your PC isn’t switching over to your on-board Geforce card when it starts to open the engine. Do you happen to have Nvidia Optimus software on your PC?
