it says that. I can open Unreal Engine 5 directly and open my project from there but I can’t do it that way. I dont think that i changed something. Why is that happening

have you installed a different engine version then the one this was created based on?

how did you get the engine? (compile from source, or install from the Epic Games launcher)

did you modify the .cs files from the project?

how was the project created on the system? (did you use the Engine Create New project, downloaded from source control, or did you copy it from another directory/computer)

where is UnrealEngine.exe relative to your Project, or has this been moved?

if you right-click your [ProjectName].uproject (the “DearFather” that you are showing be highlighted) does “switch Unreal Engine version…” appear does the dialog include other versions of the engine?)

if you go to UnrealEngine.exe can you create a new project, close it, and then open it through the [projectName].uproject

I have not installed a different engine version. This project was created on 5.2 and 5.2 is the only version that I have installed.

I got the engine by downloading the Epic Games Launcher->Library->Install

I m positive that I havent changed anything on the .cs files from the project. At least to my knowledge.

UnrealEditor.exe is here

Project is here

it does

I just created a new project from the .exe and it still says failed to launch editor when I try to open it

if you right-click the .uproject->“open with”->“Unreal Engine” (if it does not show up on the list then “Choose another app” browse to the editor.exe check “Always use this app”)

if you open the editor do the projects show up in the recent section? can you open them through that dialog window?

if you go into the Epic Games Launcher can you open either of the projects through there?

did your computer do an update, or an anti-virus sweep?

  • some times aggressive anti-virus programs will flag programs that request rights to modify other programs as viruses and remove them (look in the respective quarantine section, and see if anything from the engines directory was put in there. if so you might want to ignore-list the Engine directory)
  • there are cases where a system update can change program/app associations though the first suggestion of this post “should” address this.

there is a small chance that the engine became corrupted, but that would require re-installing the Engine.

Both “Dear Father” and “Project 2” do not open with .uproject->open with->Unreal Engine. Same pop up appears.

That is new i just tried to launch 5.2 and this appeared. This didnt appear before. Υesterday i even verifired it twice.

Now i cant even open the project from here. Yesterday I could.

It did do an update yesterday but this problem started sortly before the update not after. I have McAfee but i never had a problem before.

I will try to delete and reinstall the engine. I wanted to avoid this because i have a slow connection and roommates xD.
