How's the UE 5.5 performance and stability for everyone?

A lot of people seems to report very low Editor performances but i don’t have this issue it’s about the same for me between 5.4 and 5.5.
In your screenshot RAM and VRAM consumption have multiplied by 2 this is not normal.

Yes, that’s not normal at all with the exact same rendering settings.

Definitely noticing that volumetric clouds took a massive hit to performance for seemingly no good reason. I heard they “updated” them but they don’t look any better, and if they do, I’d rather them look a little worse and actually be playable than have them tank my frame rate by tacking on 5 milliseconds for no good reason.

Yeah this is true, however atleast you can use the volumetric cloud material from 5.4 and before

I converted my project from 5.4 to 5.5 and the performance drop of my build is 30%, no adjustments made…

What a release…

i have really huge problem with editor. But only with levels with cascade in it. With Niagara seems to be ok.

What happend?

That’s good to know. Where can I find it? I’m only seeing the ones that tank performance.

You have to migrate.

Constant crashes despite fixing all errors in the output log, I can’t keyframe something parented to another actor in the sequencer without it randomly shutting down. 5.4 is still great.

My asset has been working fine for years, including up to 5.4.3.

However, in 5.5.1 something regarding HISMs definitely has changed:

not therel same project converted to 5.5 from 5.3, editor is freakishgly slow.

ty same here from 5.3. I hear wp in 5-5 is borked.

I have been experiencing constant crashing in 5.5.1. I have a project right now that let’s me work in it, sometimes up to any significant event (like a render or editing an asset). Sometimes it lets me work for an hour or so, while other times it crashes immediately. I have run scenes with way more going on in them than this one before, so I know it isn’t a matter of having too larger of a scene. I keep getting errors like the one below here. I have also just had a popup that says that the video card was removed. It has also crashed and not even acknowledged that anything happened every once and a while. I will open a project, it loads the default map (Empty), and will just close. EPIC launcher comes back, but there is no crash window, nor is there a window for recovery when you open it back up.

Would DLSS help this issue at all? I keep checking for a release for 5.5. Is there any news at all on that front?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Ok, just happened again. I got the “GPU crashed or D3D Device Removed” error.

Reinstalled drivers…Same results.

You are most likely running out of GPU memory. In your Windows task manager, you can monitor dedicated GPU memory and see whether you’re approaching limit:

I checked into that. It is definitely hitting 100% usage. I guess I was just pushing the scene a little too far. I will try to optimize it and see if it happens again.

I have found the reason

TLDR: Render to texture becomes much slower with no reason

Since 5.2.0 all in our company are just nightmares, crashes everywhere, instabilities, 5.4.4 is specially bad with the Garbage Collector, 5.5.1 render crashes all the time… version after version the situation is worse, so much that I’m right now trying to figure out how to port back from 5.5.1 to 5.2. It’s just crazy… not sure which type of internal testing they do or what’s happening in the company.
