How to render PNGs for lit background and flat character in a single job? (Movie Render Graph)

Hi I’m trying to use Movie Render Graph (MRG) to render a single sequence that outputs multiple separate image files per frame:

  • Environment with lighting.
  • Characters unlit.
  • Backdrop containing stuff like clouds, terrain.
  • ETC.

My only real problem is I’m having trouble setting up the Movie Graph Config nodes. I’m a layman, so I don’t understand the indepth technical details. I just need to complete my project, which requires completing this task.

Please tell me how to setup the nodes to achieve this. If you can explain which nodes I need, when to add outputs and inputs, ETC. That will be a big help.

Also, I’m confused about which Condition Group option I should use in the Collection node for grouping my actors. I figure the “Editor Folder” might be best, since then in the Outliner I can just place my characters in one folder, environment in the other folder, and it’ll work. Since there are many other options I figure I should ask about it anyway.

I tried doing this using the legacy MRQ (Stencil Clip Layers), but there have been issues. Trying to render the character image using the “Unlit” view mode would wash out the colors no matter what. It also wouldn’t isolate the character for some reason.

So instead I’m using a post process material to force the character to look unlit. In the legacy MRQ, this post process can only apply globally, which is not what I need.
