How To put a Text Render on non-flat surface?

I would like to make a digital display. Something like this.

I thought the easiest way might be using a Text Render or maybe a widget.

But in both cases I have the same problem.

I would like to put it on a curved surface, like a cylinder for example.

And it doesn’t look like this.

Is there any way to adapt the Text Render or Widget to a non-flat surface?
Or any way to put dynamic text on a non-flat surface?

Thank you so much!!

Hey @Ivan3z!

Here’s another thread where they got it figured out! It’s not EXACTLY what you need but I think it’ll get you close enough to figure out!

Hope this helps!

Hi @Mind-Brain
Thanks for the help.
I think it could work just as @Everynone says in this part of the post.

I just have one more problem.
The text faces the inside of the cylinder
I tried putting -180 degrees but it doesn’t accept negative values.
I also tried negative values on the scale but that didn’t work either.

It’s almost perfect… I just need the text to be facing to the right side.
Do you know how to do that?

They mention that here:

I couldn’t find a specific tutorial that would work and I’ve never done this before. You should be able to pick through a few and find one that works- if not, maybe make a new post regarding that!

I think I’m doing something wrong related to “the two sides”

I made a new material and applied it to the font.

But when I select the “User interface” domain in the material the “Is two Sided” option disappeared.

But if I don’t use “User interface” domain then the material doesn’t work on the widget…

Then I used the “Is two Sided” option from the “widget scene component”… but it doesn’t seem to work… it looks black and should look purple.

I think I found the problem.

The back side has a different color (Background Color) which is black by default.

The problem is that Background Color has a bug (I think).
It has a very strange behavior.
Opacity is not working and colors are not updating correctly.

Also all changes are lost on compilation… and the text turns black even if the Background Color property is not black.

Is it a bug?
(I’m using UE5.4.4)

You know, I don’t know and I can’t find much around regarding this, I don’t have any experience with it and I can’t seem to find any tutorials or anything for 3D TEXT 2-sided.

I do think it is strange that it only bends in one direction, though. Seems like an oversight.

Since this is technically different from the original issue, I would suggest making a fresh post with a relevant title/subject to get as many eyes on it as you can and hope we can catch someone who knows more!
