How to make upscalers work with rain?

I have tried various upscalers. FSR, XESS , and DLSS. All of them struggle with rain. They make the rain appear streaky and much less visible.

Does anyone know of a solution to this?
I feel like there should be a way to tackle this, perhaps by excluding translucent objects from the upscaler or something.

Set translucency pass to after motion blur and it will be excluded from TSR/TAA, but you’re probably not going to be happy with the results.

In addition to not applying motion blur or antialiasing this disables depth testing, which means you have to do that yourself at significant expense.

I feel like the AW2 team did a video on their rain system and they addressed exactly that problem (how to render rain with upscaling +path tracing in real time), so I’d try to look for their video and see what solutions they found. It obviously worked quite well given how effective the effect is, but it required some special work from what I remember.

Thanks! that works for me tbh. It doesnt works with xess, but it works with fsr.
