I’m working on a environment for virtual production and we have some assets that are glowing white. However, when editing in unreal, the glow doesn’t show at all, it’s just a flat white and when we record a cinematic within unreal, it shows the assets are glowing. Is there a way to get the glowing view in real time for virtual production?
This is usually the difference between the editor viewport’s post settings and the cinematic render. The glow is bloom, which only shows when emissive values go well above 1.0 and exposure allows it.
Things to check:
In the material, multiply the emissive color by a scalar (e.g. 5–50). Flat white at 1.0 barely blooms.
Use a Post Process Volume with Infinite Extent (Unbound) enabled and Bloom Intensity > 0, and make sure the viewport’s Show > Post Processing and Bloom flags are on.
Auto exposure: the editor camera may adapt to the bright object and clip it to flat white. Set Metering Mode to Manual, or set Min/Max EV100 to the same value, so the editor and render match.
Check Settings > Engine Scalability isn’t on Low, which disables bloom.
If your CineCamera has its own post process overrides, copy them into the PPV so the live viewport matches what you record.
