How to get rid of light leaking through the walls?

Hi everyone,

I’m new to Unreal Engine and struggling with an issue I’m hoping someone can help me with. I’ve been trying to get rid of some light leaking through my walls, but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

I’ve attached a screenshot of the Lumen overview, which clearly shows the problem. Some walls don’t seem to have any leaking, but others do, and it’s especially noticeable when I move around the scene and look around.

If anyone has any suggestions for how I can fix this, I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance for your help.

Make sure each wall/ceiling/floor are separate meshes, that they are at least 20 cm thick, and snapped to a grid with overlap, but avoiding penetration between pieces for best results.

Thanks for your response! I really appreciate your help. I just wanted to clarify a few things based on your suggestions.

First, I should note that my ceiling, interior walls, and exterior walls are all separate meshes, so that shouldn’t be the issue. Additionally, the walls are already pretty thick, so I don’t think that’s the problem either.

However, I’m not quite sure what you mean by “snapped to a grid with overlap”. Could you explain that in a bit more detail? I’m new to Unreal Engine, so I’m not sure what that entails or how to do it.

Glad to report that the issue has been resolved! Upon inspection in Blender, I discovered that the walls were intersecting at their edges. I simply merged the vertices and re-imported the walls into UE5, and voila! The problem was fixed.
