How to disable streaming install for Windows Store/Xbox App

After building a package for Windows and installing the staged app version. The game is able to be launched before the Xbox App finishes the full installation. But the Windows platform uses the generic chunk installer that simply reports all chunks being installed. This leads to the game not recognizing that content is missing.

We’ve set up content in multiple chunks to support streaming install other platforms that have platform specific chunk installers. Is there a way, or a setting somewhere to not allow the app to launch until it is fully installed for the Windows/Xbox App install?

Hi,

You need to use the GDKPackageChunkInstall plugin and define the IntelligentDeliveryChunks entries in the project’s WindowsEngine.ini.

  [/Script/WindowsTargetPlatform.WindowsTargetSettings]
  +IntelligentDeliveryChunks=(ChunkId=0,bRequiredForLaunch=True)
  +IntelligentDeliveryChunks=(ChunkId=1,bRequiredForLaunch=True)
  +IntelligentDeliveryChunks=(ChunkId=2,bRequiredForLaunch=False)

You can find more details on how you can distribute your title through the Windows Store without having a WinGDK target here: https://dev.epicgames.com/documentation/unreal\-engine/microsoft\-gdk\-plugins\-for\-unreal\-engine

Hi Martin,

Thanks this definitely works! We didn’t have the GDK Chunk plugin enabled. However I did end up going with another solution of disabling generate chunks project wide and only enabled it for specific platforms in their respective configs.

Thanks again,

Jake
