How to add a dirty visor to a camera?

Imagine you see the world through a gas mask, or a dirty visor of a helmet.

The transparent glass in front of your eyes has a tint, there are scratches and there is dirt.

Also I will add a head-up display that will appear on that glass.

I found the dirt mask option for the PostProcessing actor, which is nice.

Apart from that my only idea is to actually put a mesh with a mostly transparent material in front of the camera. Is that the solution?

Hey, @rubm123! What you are looking for is a Post Process Effect! Check out the “Dirt Mask” in the Unreal Documentation and this video on creating a “Frozen Camera Post Process Effect”!

You can put an actual mesh mask in front of the camera but you might choose to fake any 3D / lighting effect in the end using post processing, if a transparent material does not provide a high enough quality of detail (translucency / refraction / shadow etc.)

That tutorial vid looks quite promising
