How possible is my passion project?

In very short I wonder if an mmorpg of my imagination is possible to make:

  • Huge open world with visible monuments from afar
  • round explorable world (where each continent would be a separate server if had to be)
  • day here means night on other side of world (possible if world is one server?)
  • day/night cycle, moon phases, seasons and calendar, affecting gameplay
  • every tree cuttable, ore mineable, plant harvestable, pebble pickable, over whole world
  • naval warfare (ship battles)
  • personal player base server instances
  • player driven economy
  • tabletop minigames
  • too much personal customization

For example think of New World: Aeternum, but with features as above, and in a less demanding art style, probably low/medium poly stylized and maybe cell-shaded or cartoon-ish shaded.

Question:

Is all this achievable in unreal engine, and if optimized correctly can I make low-end platform owners be able to also play?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

While most the things you listed are achievable in Unreal you have to be realistic. Unreal was not made in mind for MMO’s and it would be a huge undertaking to do this. I’ll make this simple.

If you’re solo/indie - the answer is No.
If you have a small team - multi year project but still risky, leaning towards No.

On top of that you have to factor the experience you/your team have, infrastructure funding, time scale and 100 other things.
