How is it working after teaming up with someone on a project ?

So in case i work with someone on a game togheter, how do you manage the so called trust issues, in case we did create a game in team and it starts selling. What is the normal legal way of doing such projects togheter? Later with profit splitting and we both are then 50/50 the rights owners of this game ip ? Do we agree to a shared bank account so we both see exactly what amount of profits are comming in and so on… What is your expirience on this topic and how do you start working with and trusting complete strangers after teaming up on your projects…

Well, that really depends on the country You live in.

You should either hire or be hired by the people you are working with, or make other type of legal agreement at the beggining of development.
Otherwise, You’ll never know how it will end up.
e.g. without an NDA, there is no protection against leaks, and worse - against stealing source code.

You should never work on a comercial project with a so called strangers, and never without legal background. If you are working without any contract, then people are more than welcome to steal your hard work.

If the project was planned as non-commercial, then probably it shouldn’t be published as a commercial product. Without planning it from the very beggining, it will be really hard to value each member’s work and pay them accordingly.

Basically, making money with strangers is always a bad idea :stuck_out_tongue:
And man… I won’t even start about taxes…

So it make scence with NDA and agreements but even those can be broken. I was more thinking as a noob teaming up with a noob to work on the first game which can be pretty riski. One may want to break up after a while and give up if it takes too long or any other reason, but then wants then to keep the progress we’ve done, so he may continue it in the future or stuff like this. So i was thinking in case like this where we can’t afford paying pro’s working for us which would be acctually easy to manage without getting scammed. But as newbies trying to lern and do stuff in team could be pretty cool but at the same time it feels that anything can happen on our way to not finish our game. I have some cool ideas but i awso don’t want to risk loosing the game or parts of it if the guy just decide he want to finish it alone and run with all the work we did or something like that…

As i read some posts here some just say “hey im looking for people to team up for a survival game…” Then just random dudes show up and say stuff like “im up for it…” It looks so easy and im wondering how they just all go along for it. I would be as you say more cautious. “Basically, making money with strangers is always a bad idea :stuck_out_tongue:

These projects are either small and non-commercial, or they fall down pretty quickly.
It’s also often that people who make these propositions are pretty niewbie’ish, so don’t expect a lot. Belive me, You won’t take a part in anything commercial that starts on a forum (unless it is a regular job advertisement).

However, these are a good opurtunities to meet valuable people who you might work with in the future on something more serious, and I highly recommend to treat these in such way. Being around people who share the same passion is greit.

Yeah, that sounds pretty good to me so goal is to see what i/we can learn and achieve with someone that is awso new to unreal engine. On the other hand i think it may be even possible to get a game ready with someone if it is fun to work with and we just stay motivated and share the same passion about the game we want to develop. It will be only a matter of time and dedication to get it done. I’m thinking to start with a prototype of the game just a small level with core features and then expand from that till we finish it.

What i want to do is a game with endless waves of zombies where we try to stop them with building traps, getting xp and currency on the way to then build more traps and unlocking skills. The zombies are comming in waves and each wave they come more and harder ones. Thats the core of the game… Inspired by Orcs Must Die franchise.

I wish someone want to work on this one maybe just for fun at the start, till we see if we are getting closer and closer to make a full game out of it. It would be bad or “almost” a waste of time to work on a project that is nothing more then just for learning expierience but has no meaning at the end. I just started to learn unreal and my first project was awso something i wanted to do so it was really challenging but at the same time it was for me worth doing and not just “training ground” simpel level where i just play around building stuff and learning.

If you want you can check it out it is one very underrated video in my opinion. I made it as my very first work on unreal and awso my first time working on 3d design in general. Too bad most people will not even see it because they might think as the title of it suggest “first unreal project” so it will be nothing special and some standart full noob stuff to see but thats far from the truth…Only those that do see it may understand and grasp the real work behind it. I’m even confident to say that at least 90%+ of the people that are absolute newbies like me will never start with a project like this one as a first work (I started it around 1 week after i installed unreal for the first time and then i knew only very basic knowledge how it worked). But now at the end I’m so glad that i even manage to finish it and i hope that i will never have to do this again…

Even non-comercial project made for learning purpose can a have meaning at the end.
If the source code and assets are well done and polished, You can make the public repository for it (e.g. on GitHub.com), publish the build somewhere (e.g. on Itch.io ), or make some kind of documentation about it. With all of this, You can basically paste it to CV/Portfolio and get a real-life job. Such CV/Portfolio would be very atractive for any kind of employee.

I’ll check it out in a sec.

If it’s not just random level, doing stuff on it and at the end of it to just delete it then acctually the time and energie spend on the stuff doing can be maybe later reused for a future project or something. For sure nothing wrong with that and as you say maybe to have it stored and possible to show what i’ve done so far if some job oppurtunity comes and i than have good stuff to showcase what skills i have with my previous works. So basicly thats why i wanted to try something cool at the start so i can say “hey i made this one” and i can do this or that…

Ok nice that you want to check my first project. Maybe you may even like it.

Nice one and true

At the end not everyone is a scammer overall the guys here are dedicated with the work they do or else they wouldnt be on a dev forum. Still, there is aways a risk but there must be a simpel way to work with decent people who really want to achieve their goals on the projects they work on…

what is missing do dey is only money in the right hands…Real investments in real projects with a sense and need off existence with shareholders and stocks a real maket kickstarter but done whit STOK with share shares as king crypto you invest in the game the game breaks you are a stockholder real market!!! But there are scammers who live on a pirate ship in the middle of the ocean on international waters that they would steal everything…

simply to make a AAA product you need at least 10 people who don’t brutalize Caesar before finishing the project…if Cesare dies they will not make another one you can’t build a bridge by changing architect and project in the middle of the construction… suicide!!!

before making a transaction or signing any contract entrust yourself to a session of Star Trek anti scamer tranig
