Hello, let me start off by saying I am a moron. Now that’s out of the way, I’ve downloaded the Free for the month Modular Victorian House. On the modular example map, there’s grundge and dirt down the outside of the walls and corners. I can’t for the life of me figure out how it’s done. I’ve tried mesh painting, there’s no decals… I am probably being really stupid but can anyone point me in the right direction of being able to apply dirt to the walls please?
Open up the materials and take a look?
It’s probably being done within the material using some kind of noise texture. Here is a very basic example of how you can apply dirt or grime to a uniform material.
As far as I can tell, it’s an AO mask as that’s a parameter they’ve set in the Material Instance, with the dirt texture. My dumb ■■■ doesn’t know how to use that yet though haha
the precomputed ao is baked in lightmass. and they blend the textures using it as an alpha. sneaky lil cheat for short range ao fx. yep
OK thank you! I’ll look into this more but I think I’ll try a different solution for what I want to do. Just couldn’t fathom what they’d done with my limited knowledge, I’m still learning
