I have a building where I hide the roof while adjusting the object placements inside. However when I hide the roof meshes with the visibility toggle in the outliner, it also affects the lighting, and I would like to continue to see the shadows/lighting to help in placement. I’m really just hiding it so I can pick and adjust easier. Is there already a way to do this?
If not, perhaps a 3rd state on that visibility option in Outliner would be useful.
Hi Wreker7777,
You could try playing with “Visible in” settings in the advanced section of the Render section:
Perhaps something like this? It’s a variant of the masked material with shadows.

Thanks for your reply. Your screen shot looks like what I’m trying to achieve, however toggling the ‘Visible In Scene Capture’ doesn’t make a difference in my case.
The ‘Only Owner See’ option does have an effect, but it is the oppositive of what I want.
When the mesh is Visible (via Outliner), enabling ‘Only Owner See’ hides its shadows.
When the mesh is Not Visible (via Outliner), it has no effect.
I don’t really want to modify the materials/lighting settings as I only want to have this effect in the editor. Its really like a transparent to picking in editor type mode.
That should work with lumen and without - can you try those settings on a default cube to see if they work in your level?
You don’t need the “Owner No See” or “Only Owner See” - it hides the shadow when ticked here too…
