Archicad’s Twinmotion-Datasmith transition from the 27 to 28 update: Incompatibility.
How do you update a project using Datasmith 27 to Datasmith 28?
My project was created on Archicad 28 when Datasmith’s only compatible version was 27.
Now that Archicad and Datasmith have both updated to version 28, my project, initially created using Datasmith 27, refuses to update to version 28, regardless of the Datasmith Import setting. Even after deleting Datasmith 27, Twinmotion retains Datasmith’s 27 settings, creating twin offset double images—both the old Datasmith 27 and the new Datasmith 28 versions with conflicting objects and finishes.
At this point, Is my only option to fix this: starting all over again using Datasmith 28?
I understand that you used Archicad 28 with a version of datasmith exporter that should work only for Archicad 27… You should not have been able to install that version of datasmith exporter on archicad 28. Can you confirm that part.
What I am thinking I understand is:
You created a project in Archicad 27, that you transferred to TM using datasmith exporter supporting version Archicad 27.
=> which version of TM?
=> Which version of the datasmith exporter?
=> are you using direct link or export/import of udatasmith files?
Then you updated Archicad to 28, and reinstall Datasmith exporter that supports archicad 28.
=> which version of TM?
=> Which version of the datasmith exporter?
And now when you try to update the scene, you originally imported from Archicad 27 into TM, you do not get the expected results.
My project was created on Archicad 28 on January 4, 2025, and rendered using Twinmotion 2025.1 on February 12, 2025. At that time, Datasmith’s only compatible version was 27: Archicad 28 was not yet compatible with Datasmith 28.
Now, Archicad’s latest version 28, is not compatible with Datasmith’s version 27.
I found the problem.
I uninstalled Archicad 28 and worked backward before the latest Archicad Hotfix 28.2., Issued 5/14/2025.
I installed Archicad to 28.1.1 Hotfix, issued on April 7, 2025, using Datasmith 27, which corrected the incompatibility.
How do you transfer your project from Archicad to TM? Do you use the direct link synchornisation option?
How did you manage to get a render in TM in February? At that time there was no Datasmith plugin to install on your Archicad 28.
Did you have an old datasmith plugin that worked with Archicad 27 that kept working with Archicad 28?
No, I haven’t tried the direct link option. I don’t see a direct Link option for Archicad 28?
And yes, I can go to my pre-Archicad 28 update-backup that used Datasmith 27, and apply the latest changes, then use TW 2025.1 to update the rendering.
I’m using the latest version of Archicad 28, and the latest Datasmith version 28
When I worked on the January 4, 2025, version of Archicad 28 and Datasmith 27, it worked seamlessly with TM 2025.1 with no additional effort on my part.
The problem started on May 25, 2025, when I made the latest changes and updated Archicad 28, and I was prompted that Archicad was not compatible with Datasmith 27.
