How do you make sure that simulated code is the actor you are using?

Hi I have this problem a lot, I would like to debug some code so I play the game and watch the simulated code.

In this example I would like to see what the state machine is doing:

However it does not seem to be tracking my character (I have no other characters so god knows what it is simulating) how do you go about making sure this simulates the character you are working on?
