How can I recreate this galaxy volume material?

The material in question:

I have already tried many ways, but I can’t seem to find any solution to replicate this. I am currently using a volumetric material with noise that is spirally mapped using uv manipulation and a particle emitter in combination with exponential height fog and a directional light.

The problem is that I can’t get the shape right. The volume texture always looks at the camera and is of a sphere shape, thus not looking like a galaxy at all.

What also bothers me a lot is that the author of the material mentions that the set-up is rather simple actually, so I am a bit confused.
