Hey guys i need a graphics card

I’m totally new to game design, I need a good starter graphics card. Hook me up, if you have a good recommendation on a graphics card that is going to last me a good year; please let me know of the price that I should be spending for your game engine.

Ok lets start :). This 1st 3 is most expensive and the most powerfull video card you can buy

  • The most powerfull: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti it cost on amazon €763 in MRender is the most fast with 288 fps - 1st position
  • The 2nd less expensive is: Nvidia GTX 1080 it cost on amazon €531 in MRender is the second in speed with 261 fps - 2nd position
  • The 3rd more less expensive is: Nvidia GTX 1070 it cost on amazon €408 in MRender is the 4th in speed with 218 - 4th position

If your budget is less that 300 euro so my raccomandation was:

  • Nvidia GTX 1060-6GB it cost on amazon €251 in MRender is the best for quality/price with 165 fps - 10 position
  • Nvidia GTX 1060-3GB it cost on amazon €205 in MRender is too good for quality/price with 158 fps - 11 position

If you want to spend less that 200 euro is realy bad coise but lets see what the best you can buy from 100 to 200 euro

  • AMD RX 470 it cost on amazon €194 in MRender is making 139 fps - 17 position
  • AMD R9 380 it cost on amazon €185 in MRender is making 112 fps - 27 position
  • Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti it cost on amazon €153 in MRender is making 84.1 fps - 37 position
  • Nvidia GTX 1050 it cost on amazon €127 in MRender is making 82.3 fps - 40 position

If you realy want a bad video card you free to buy one with less that 100 euro but let’s the best you can take with this money

  • AMD RX 550 it cost on amazon €75 in MRender is making 67.3 fps - 46 position
  • Nvidia GTX 745 (OEM) it cost on amazon €57 in Mrender is making 24.7 fps - 70 position

Less that 50 euro is better internal videocard with a good processor xD.
In Conclusion got money buy the best dont got found a compromise between power and cost and this is list of best coises you can made

PS: If you want to be a level designer you absolutly need a graphic card over 200 euro and minimum 16 gb of ram + 1 ssd for SSD I suggest you Samsung 850 Series Pro our Evo on your coise.

Oh yeah I forgot if you dont have an SSD and want make your OS more fast with less expensive solution buy a “Lexar JumpDrive P20 USB 3.0 64GB” the most fast USB Flash Drive that you can plug in a USB port “better in 3.0 port” and use it like ready bost.

To use a ready bost you need plug in a usb device go on Computer resorse - Right click USB device - proprety - Redy bost

If your USB device was fester that HDD that is can be used that ready bost, and this Lexar is the best one and cost only 30 euro. You can anyway buy 2 of them and make a Raid 1 to double speed of bost but 60 euro is better to save to buy a SSD xD.

GeForce GTX 750 Ti is a good starter option, very cheap, and very cost effective.

GTX 750 Ti cost €107 and in MRender is making 60.6 fps, In my list I mentioned AMD RX 550 it cost on amazon €75. It cost €32 less and was 10% more powerfull with 67.3 fps in Mrender

Before anything, what’s your current computer system specs and a budget if you have one?

If you don’t know how to look it up, in windows open file explorer right click “your computer” show properties. then post the specs up.

Specifically looking for RAM, Processor, and System type. Also if you know offhand what kind of motherboard you have that’d help too.

Actually all of these are gaming GPU’s which are intended for limited use time and will have meltdowns in your PC if you overuse them. I say this from personal experience 4 years ago when I used a gaming pc to make video games. I did an all nighter working on a project for a client and my video card got so hot from rendering that it melted inside my chassis.

Also not to incite nerd rage but the most powerful and most expensive consumer video card on the market is not the Nvidia GTX 1080 ti.

At the moment the Nvidia Quadro gp100 is and it is beautiful well worth the $7,000 dollar investment, lol.

With regards to GPUs you need to make sure your computer is equipped to handle it. Otherwise your gonna have hardware issues that could end up costing you down the line. You may end up, metaphorically speaking, put a 12 cylinder engine in a dune buggy. What do you think that does to handling or intake/exhaust systems.

With regards to Nvidia, they have the Geforce and the Quadro line of products that are both GPUs but their intended use is different. Geforce is intended for gaming and the Quadro is intended for workstations (computers that are used for work). Not saying you can’t use a Geforce to make video games but if you do, know it’s limitations. Same with Quadro.

AMD Phenom™ II X4 945 Processor;…
Graphics card: ATI Radeon 3100
[ Internal DAC: 400Mhz;
3063 total memory,
252MB VRAM
shared memory 2811MB] <----- stats for my current graphics card. Do I need a new one?;…

8 gig ram 7.75 usable
windows 10
motherboard: ms-7501 (Micro-star international)

How should I modify or add onto my computer to make this machine a starter to help me learn game design with unreal.

You telling that is better spend 7000$ for a video card to build a personal server in house that you never use this power for build a game… Is like tell someon to make for game a

2 CPU Xeon E5-2630v3 8 core

768 GB Ram

26 Hard Disk SSD Datacenter class 960 GB

4x Nvidia Quadro gp100

and using it to make game with this machine. Sure you can spend thousends $ to make the best computer in the world but is a vaste of money if you dont use it to more that 1 person same time.

I dubit this man need to build a server with 10/20 friends to develop game in the same place. Atm usualy people working via internet in particolar if is a indie developing studio our few people that got the same passion but live in differend houses.

ATI Radeon 3100 really? xD

Yeah you need to new 1, look the my answer for coise 1 in function how much money you want to spend. But I dubit your processor handle a videocard over 300 euro. So if you take 1 more expensive and you dont project to future upgrade is a waste of money.

Dont need to write the same message in all 2 answers we receave a email evry comment you make

I’d like to start developing games if anyone knows of a studio starter group, let me know. MK Studio, I gave you my specifications for my machine. How does my machine look? Do I need to change anything? My unreal engine crashes with my driver everytime I open Virtual Reality game. It says
The installed version of the AMD graphics driver has known issues Please update to the latest driver version. ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics, Installed: 8.970.100.9001 Recommended 16.400.3111.0

VR using realy much power you need to update all your system I can make a build for you if you tell me how much money you want to spend (I suggest minimo 1k euro if you want to work with VR our build levels). With your actual machine you only can learn programming without try to do it in VR.

Aniway you can try to search a studio our make a post that you search 1 here: https://forums.unrealengine.com/forumdisplay.php?25-Got-Skills-Looking-for-Talent is a official forum to do it, but before try to search a team I suggest you to study needed knowelage becouse usualy studious need already ready people.

Actually I’m a founder and general director of MK Studio is a italian indie game studio, if you know italian you are wellcome.

If you need a source where take knowelage and got few money I suggest you to use pluralsight online professional school it got the best professional tutorials I seen around but it cost 29,90 euro mounthly not su much but if you dont have this money better start with youtoube channels.

For start to learn UE4 for free I suggest you to check official UE4 training youtoube playlists here: https://www.youtube.com/user/UnrealDevelopmentKit/playlists?shelf_id=17&view=50&sort=dd

When you got basic knowelage to start go in deep by using UE4 writen documntation that you found here: Unreal Engine 4 Documentation | Unreal Engine Documentation

Our use more indeep youtoube chanels like: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOVfF7PfLbRdVEm0hONTrNQ/playlists the my favorite one

Let me know which one I need… My budget is $200-300. I’m so indecisive.

Start to buy a Nvidia GTX 1070 for €230
After when you got money buy this other components:

  • 1st SSD Samsung 850 Evo 500GB €155
  • 2nd MBD Asus STRIX Z270F GAMING €166
  • 3rd RAM G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4 3600 C16 2x8GB €197
  • 4th CPU Intel Core i5-7600K €238

In total less that 1000 euro all upgrade but with this build you can develo evry cind of game you want + after you can update your ram with other 2x8 GB

NB: You need buy Ram, MBD and CPU in same moment becouse you got old DDR3 so you MBD dont work with new ram, and same for CPU you need a specific MBD cipset for specific CPU
