Here is a way to SPEED UP Shader calcs, (and break past the 45% issue)

WHEN it is stuck at 45% (etc) or calculating 8,000 shaders. etc:

Hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open task manager.

Go to ‘details’ tab,

Find the multiple ‘Ue4 Shader Compile’ entries (however many CORES you have, there’ll be that many Shader Compiles listed)

Right click each, set priority to HIGH (or REALTIME).,. Click through yes etc,
You can also temporarily set Unreal/Ue4Editor.exe to Priority LOW while it calculates!

ALSO in the Editor Viewport switch to a wireframe viewport that is ‘panned’ away from the bulk of the scene, (ie: A single EMPTY Wireframe viewport) That lets it put all resources to finishing shader calcs.

FINALLY it is nice to see the shaders go FAST!!!

That doesn’t really work 100% of the times btw. It depends on what the computer is doing / how much ram you have avaliable / how many shaders need compiling.

Patience is key. It can be stuck at 45% for a good 4 hours on the first time you open a large project. It’s only normal as you do not have all the resources needed to display items packed and ready to go yet.

Just gotta get a good CPU. On a ryzen 3900x it takes like 3 minutes to compile all the shaders.

I’ll never join the dark side- and I’m on a 9700k so I dont think I can blame the cpu…
