Help please - Driving an emissive pulse with a texture

So, ill start off with im pretty new to UE and I really dont know much about it. However im working on a uni project and cant work out if I can or cannot do something.

Id like to drive an emissive with a black and white map using it to drive values in the emissive using it with a pannar. I have no idea if its possible or not and if it is whether its well out of my reach in terms of complexity.

So ill start with can I do it? And if so how would I go about it?

One option would be using the time node and plugin time as an input for a sine/cosine node. Take those outputs and multiply it with the emissive. Once you adjust the sine and cosine you can get a decent pulsating material.
