Help me make Ominous Storm clouds?

Hello all, Im trying to set up a dynamic skybox / sky sphere with some really ominous storm clouds. I want to have some that actually pass through where gameplay takes place. Would an of you have any reccomendations or starting points that might be able to help me out while using time of day settings etc?

There are multiple ways of handling this, I personally would avoid particles unless they come very low into the play space. Doing this with meshes and materials/textures etc. would be far less costly and yield a result which doesn’t tilt/look flat when the your camera rotates/moves relative to the effects.
