For all of you still following this thread, I thought I’d give it some closure with this article, which I believe might be related to this error, and place it in a wider view. It looks like other global changes are happening, including some policies too, perhaps even related to this one we’re addressing. Update: I received the invitation link, eventually.

Can you please try following the steps on this link again, but this time on a Microsoft Edge Browser , to see if you will now be able to receive the invites?

Epic support asked me to try re-link a GitHub yesterday. I have done it just now. And I received an invitation. And I have an access right now.
I have also cleared epicgames.com cookies and deauthorized Epic in GitHub settings.
It looks like the issue is fixed.
Hello there, I got the same issue again. After click Join Epic Games link, it direct me to a 404 page with Sign in to GitHub · GitHub.
I have tried to unlink and link Github account again. Still not working. Can I get some help?

I have a solution for 2026. I was experiencing the same problem, just started trying to access the source code today and with a bit of clicking around I found something that works. All in a day, strangely lucky.
I will describe where everything starts to break for all of you presumably, still, and then I will describe what worked for me.
Of course I went through the instructions and even asked for help and this forum was found, too, though initially not that helpful, and then somehow people stopped having problems in 2023 but were having problems again in 2025 ??? but no more talk. Well, it’s July 12, 2026 and it didn’t work for me at the start. Due to a miscommunication.
Here is what is in the instructions: the invitation will come in the email (but it won’t)
I tried to post a screen capture of the instructions regarding the email here, but they say I’m a new user and I am, which implies I must not include more than one image in this post. The instructions regarding the email are well known so I removed the screen capture from the post but you can think of that in your head as you are reading this far.
It seems the Github account is linked without the email invitation so they stopped putting the button in the email. But actually you still need to click on Join. The button comes somewhere else.
Finally I went to Google and searched for unreal engine github 404.
If you have 404 error the Unreal Engine link will still bring you to 404! Either on this page or on the Lore page (curiosity did what to the cat?) you will see a bar at the top notifying you that an invitation to join Epic Games has been made.

Worked on July 12, 2026. The more things change the more they stay the same. And if I may say, let’s hide the earlier comments that don’t offer respite. It’s an interesting story looking at the struggles people had long before I was getting into this matter, and this forum seems to be a nice enough design. And if anyone is watching the goings on, maybe they can update the instructions to avoid this problem. Unless that was a feature not a bug. Going into this discussion I almost gave up!!! Was that the intention all along? Either everyone found what I found much more quickly or no one has been trying to get the source code? The error was definitely something you can hit, I don’t see how you can miss. Or do I not know how to do things?
