I was wondering if there was a UE4 Gear VR roadmap anywhere. I know myself, and others, have hit various issues during development of projects (performance issues, lollipop compatibility problems) and I was wondering what the plan over the next couple of months is, as well as the long term plan, in supporting the Gear VR as well as other mobile VR devices.
I can not comment on the future plans as I do not know what they are but I have been updating the current documents to reflect the 4.8 changes. However if people in the forum can make a list of items they feel are the biggest stumbling blocks we can see what can be done about getting some targeted docs to address those issues.
I started this thread quite a while ago:
After this went unanswered I sent a PM and J.J. but got not reply, I then sent a PM to asking if he could find out and got no reply. So I’ve been starting to feel like Gear VR had been forgotten about a little now that the Mobile VR Jam is over. J.J. Had said in another thread that the Lollipop issues were his top priority for 4.8, but I’m still unclear if the issues raised in my thread have been fixed. I don’t think they have. There’s no mention of a fix in the release notes and I’ve been monitoring commits on github and couldn’t spot anything relevant there either.
: If you could take a look at the thread above and read the 3rd post from and let us know the status of each of the items he lists there then that would be great helps. It would also restore my faith in Epic’s ability to provide great support for us Gear VR developers, which up until about four weeks ago, had been great. Thanks!
