Gaps Between Landscape components

Hey Guys,

Not sure if this is a bug, but I’m getting strange gaps between components in my landscapes. I am using World compostion to build a large landscape, but the individual landscapes are having these strange gaps as illustrated in the below screen shots.

These gaps aren’t between different landscapes, they are actually between components in a single landscape. I can’t tell if this is because of some setting I have or if there is an issue going on here. Each landscape has them, and it’s not an LOD issue, as they are always there. They don’t seem to be affecting collision or any other detrimental effect, but they do break immersion factor. I’ve tried remaking and reimporting the height maps, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Please let me know if you need anything from me to help solve this.

Thanks

Adding these additional screen shots, couldn’t upload to the original post…

Hi,

We have never seen this before. Could you attach a project archive with minimal content, so we can look into it?

I will do my best - unfortunately I live out in the middle of nowhere and have a limited bandwidth for uploading and downloading. I will try to see if I can get this to reproduce in a separate project and if so, I’ll provide the steps I took to reproduce and the landscape file.

Hey ddvlost -

How can I attach a 20 meg file here?

Thanks

I added it to my drop box account - you can get the file here:

Thanks for taking a look!

edit - you will want to look in the Start22 map.

The problem is relative location of some components is shifted a bit. I wonder how you achieved that. Did gaps appeared right after you import heightmap? Or did you scale or change components setup later? Only workaround I see is to delete broken landscape and import new one.

It’s possible to detect such situations in the code and fix components relative positions when landscape is loaded in the editor, I will try to add it to 4.7.

Good call. It was difficult to achieve but putting one’s mind to it and one can accomplish anything!

I scaled the height maps pretty much immediately after loading. I’d had a couple issues loading in the height maps in terms of the scale I was looking for; I had generated the HMs in World Machine, and scaled them up a bit because they were a tad little bit small time-wise when walking across at the max walk speed we selected for the characters.

I’m not sure when the gaps appeared, specifically, I they are pretty much invisible unless you’re quite close to them. I did note the extra yellow borders, but they too were difficult to detect unless you were very close. It was only when I coincidentally stopped by one when play testing the scale that I actually discovered them. The landscapes were scaled in all axises.

It would be a great add to 4.7. This is a demo map I’m working on, so I’m not going to bother with re-importing the maps, as I’d have to rescale anyways. But new maps would be great to scale without issue. I’m sure I’m not the only one tweaking the scales of landscapes…

Thanks for looking and the quick responses!
