Summary
Since the launch of Fortnite Chapter 6 I have experienced frequent crashes, seemingly at random since there is no commonality between what is happening when they occur other than playing the game. I have never had crashing issues with this game outside of the ray tracing bug which was resolved when I turned it off. I have never had crashing issues on any other game with this rig ever.
-
Crashes have happened in Zero Build, Ballistic, Rocket Racing, the lobby, watching replays, and random Creative maps.
-
Before the crash the screen will typically lock up for a few seconds, followed by the game closing itself and an “oops” Unreal Engine error message that doesn’t give any additional information.
-
During gameplay, things will usually be fine for a period of time and then the framerate will hitch and dip very low out of nowhere. I have a 4090 and typically get at least 80+ FPS no issue at all with my settings. These dips will go down to 5FPS and hover around there, or shoot back and forth between that and a normal framerate. A crash is usually imminent at some point afterward. Again there doesn’t seem to be any common thread that I can ascertain between the times this has happened.
-
I have attempted every troubleshooting step I can possibly think of, including updating drivers, rolling back drivers, deleting the FortniteGame folder, updating C++, reinstalling, etc etc. I work in tech myself and can usually figure these things out, but it seems this is some sort of deeper engine issue that is beyond me so I thought I would report it to hopefully get it addressed.
Thanks!
