Game executable file creates infinite loop calling itself

Hi! After packaging my game and opening the exe file, it creates a infinite loop calling itself and the game crashes.

Hello there @Oscar_TAF!

Checking with my peers, that file you are executing, is most likely a bootstrap launcher. It’s job is to find and start the actual .exe file of your game at inside Windows<ProjectName>\Binaries\Win64\

And right now, it seems to be resolving its target to itself, then re-appends the project name again and again, resulting in the loop you are seeing.

Couldn’t start:
“D:\Clientes\SETAI\TheoVerce_Legacy\Final Game Package 2\Windows\Test_Project.exe”
Test_Project Test_Project Test_Project Test_Project…

This kind of issue usually happens when the file structure is changed after build/pack, either due files being moved, compressed, or certain folders being renamed. Considering this, please check the following in your build:

  • Make sure all folders and sub-folders are in order, with their proper naming conventions (like not having spaces in the folders’ names)

  • Verify that the real .exe exists between the file structure, by navigating to Windows\Test_Project\Binaries\Win64\ and checking if it’s there

  • Check your security settings between your system, if any antivirus or similar tool blocked your .exe file

  • Test by executing directly from the .exe file at Win64\

  • If all else fails, try repackaging your game to a clean folder, leaving any old files behind, then test again
