[Free] Simple Road Tool

It still is attached at the bottom of the first post.

@siebencorgie:

I think i found also the bug with the strange heightmap scratches.
The scratches appear, when there are 2 spline points too close to each other.

For example: if you click the “Add End” Button and dont move the second spline point, but add a third spline point, then there will be a scratch starting at the 2 very close spline points.

So if you have a minimum distance between each spline point, then there will be no scratch in the landscape

Thanks for the great tool! i like working with it and hope i can help you fixing the last bugs :wink:

@gaitara:
please try another browser! I had the same problem with mozilla firefox, but it works with internet explorer

Is this continued to be improved by the original dev or are any people expanding it as another project?

Could you give a little more detail of how this should be? Or perhaps provide a sample .uasset file?

I’m having the same problem. It’s not at all clear to me how or where to create sockets to attach roads onto the intersection geometry. The interface is different than the one in the tutorial and I’ve tried clicking on various things but just guessing badly.

Here is what I can do:

I can make a road and add new sections to it.
I can add an intersection end geometry to it.

Here is what I can’t figure out:

Where in the menu I go to create sockets to then have the roads go right left front from the intersection.

There seems to be a number of choices.

Is it End Mesh
End attachment
Cross Extra?

If it’s Cross Extra, when I click on the create end socket button nothing seems to happen. But I have no idea what I’m doing.

Please could someone instruct me in detail?

looking good, i can try this tool

Hi,
sorry for the late replies!
I’ll try to answer as many questions as possible but first things first:

I actually stopped working with unreal just some days after publishing this tool. The reason is a mixture of a still bad Linux port as well as a shift of interests. I won’t continue to “develop” this tool any further. However, you are free to make changes to it and present them to the community. Either within this thread or if it’s a bigger update within your own thread. If you like you can give a credit to the original author.

You’ll need a plane (usually two verts :D) with the sizes x: 1uu / y: 1uu. Which needs uv coordinates. If you are using Blender it’s as easy as this:

  1. Shift+A -> Plane
  2. Scale by 0.5
  3. Apply scale
  4. Edit mode
  5. select all
  6. press “u” -> unwrap (first entry)
  7. then export

But the only important thing is, that the size is 1uux1uu in UE4.

The sockets are used for the system to “know” where it can potentially attach a new road. You’ll have to add sockets to you static road mesh. The menu should be there, if not have a look in the top-bar drop-downs. maybe its hidden. If you still can’t find it, ask at the AnswerHub, they’ll know what to do :slight_smile: .

I’ll try to have a look after this thread from time to time but please don’t expect any new features.

thanks!

Hello,

First of all thank you for making the Blueprint available, it was very cool and practical!

I would like you to ask me a question. I am not able to split the offset into multiple meshs because the details pane does not show the Bluetility option as described in the tutorial.

I’m using another road mesh. Does not the fact of appearing have anything to do with it?

Sorry for my English.

Regards,

Is it possible to adapt this so that you can conform the landscape to any mesh, or is it specific to splines?

Same thing, I want to use it for a project and can’t import it. Can plz show us how?

There’s a video in the very first link.

I know this maybe a little late, but I was hoping that someone can still help me. So far, I was able to draw the splines, add my custom meshes, along with attaching the spline to the landscape. However, for the life of me, I cannot get the visual landscape size to appear on the spline. It will apply the size you change in the lsm in/output values, and I have “show landscape szises” ticked, but not being able to see the landscape size does not help. It is like I have to guess in the dark to find the appropriate landscape size. I am not sure why it is not working, but would it have something to do with spelling of the word szises? The correct spelling is sizes.

cricket… cricket… cricket…
okay, so since i have not heard from anyone, I assuming that everyone whom has used this tool is able to see a landscape preview? if so, what are you doing to make this show up?

I have not been able to get the landscape preview to go as well.

Hi,
sorry for some reason I don’t get any email notifications anymore.
Within the blueprint there are two mesh components dedicated to the inner and the outer plane. You might have to assign your own plane. The right plane would be a 1uux1uux0uu plane with simple uv coordinates.

how can i improve performance, its really bad when moving spline points even when i disabled colliosions. And road only contains 30 vertices

Hey I was having the same problems with the tool really laggy when moving spline points not sure what causing this. I also kept my road mesh to a minimum and added it 3 times into spline mesh components array elements.

turn collision off

I turned off the collision has no effect still laggy makes it impossible to place roads
