[Free] Simple Road Tool

i guess just because its an old code, im not to sure best to build one than its easier to maintain imo

This is a fantastic tool siebencorgie! Iā€™ve run into a few problems with the initial setup. I noticed that you have set it up to automatically detect the bounds of the mesh and then set that as the spacing amount which is awesome, however, based on stretching (squishing really) happening on the texture and the wireframe view, it looks like itā€™s compressing the mesh in the middle an at the ends. Notice how the spacing of the subdivisions is smaller in these places but in the mesh theyā€™re evenly spaced.

Also, Iā€™m curious why there are 3 array elements for the SplineMeshComponent? Couldnā€™t you just use one? I added the same mesh there 3 times but Iā€™m not sure if that was your intention.

Hi, I think its because Im using 4.18.3, but i completly missing Blutilities button. When i select crossroads mesh, add actor to ā€œEnd attachmentā€ and click ā€œadd end meshā€, crossroads and new splines will appear anyway, but rotation of first spline point doesnt stick with socket. Have anybody same problem? Is there any solution?

Hey man, this tool is great! Quick question : If I were to make a closed circuit track, how would I go about doing that. How do I join my starting endpoint of the road and the ending endpoint seamlessly?

@nerdares, From the OP of this thread, there is a video on how to join ending and starting points, along with other features. However, if you are just interested with joining, you can jump to frame 5:02 for attaching endpoints and 6:39 for attaching startpoints. :wink:

I am still using UE4 414, and I am having a problem with attaching a landscape. This never happened to me before, and I am positive that I am doing it correctly. First, select all the road splines and then, with the eye dropper, pick my landscape. However, nothing happens, when doing so, and the landscape name property still says none? Do you think I need to put a fresh uasset copy in the blueprint folder. If so, then how do I reload the blueprint? There is no reimport option when right clicking on the asset.

Iā€™m having a problem right now, after I have build a road and close de UE4 Editor and then go back and open the map, some parts of the road are broken, has anyone experienced this too? Is there a solution? (Iā€™m using 4.19.2)

I have started using this instead.

It updated and receives support. It does pretty much everything the free road tool did and more.

Ive figured out why the tool is so slow to use once youve made a decent length and want to move it. After some picking apart, and experimentation, iā€™ve found that if you go to the AddRoadToSpline function, set all the update mesh booleans to false on the set start and end/scale functions, it stops the massive lag when moving the roads around. I hope this helps everyone because it certainly helped me. Again, great tool Sieben - two thumbs up bro =)

**** Doing this will disable collision, so when you have finished setting the roads position, set the bool back to true. (I promoted it to variable and made it public for ease of use) ***

Hello, not sure if this is a dead thread or not, but if your still there I was just wondering if it is possible to convert an entire road to a static mesh object?
