fps template: character pawn in vr mode inside moving vehicle not working

I developed a map using the FPS template. I want to have the character pawn inside a moving vehicle. I dont need a smart vehicle, so I did one on a spline, or i could use cinematics to move it.

either way, it works. However, if I view the map in VR, because the headset moves freely not on a vertical axe (yaw), i cant keep the pawn inside the “walls” of the vehicle. I can’t change the template to a vr one, as I need both desktop and VR. Any hints on how to proceed? Please help.
