My team is working on multiplayer maps for an FPS shooter and while I know the answer varies wildly, what would be the “average” square meter/footage for an FPS map of around 20-30 players? What would be the low end and high end of this as well?
There’s no definite answer on this one, depends on how well you’ve coded the game and the optimization of content. I’d say run some tests to find your breaking point, then stay within those figures. I’m currently building an FPS / TPS Shooter and I can run roughly 40 bots + 8 or so players in one match, but the maps are maybe 1/2 km².
Start with small map, do all the gameplay and then when everything work make something bigger, because you will have to wait the map to load everytime you hit play
