Forward Rendering for VR

Oculus just posted this info about their forward rendering version of UE4.

I seem to recall Epic talking about a forward rendering branch not too long ago on a live stream. They discussed its use in the re-release of Showdown. I’m wondering if these are one in the same, and if Epic might be releasing an official forward rendering option in the binary version sometime soon. Any response from Epic folks?

Interesting stuff. Wondering if foward rendering has other advantages over deferred outside of VR!!!

it does. it will speed up standard rendering as well.
