Since Fortnite season update, I have been unable to launch Fortnite. The game crashes during startup and displays an “EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” error. I have already reinstalled the game twice, verified the game files, updated my graphics drivers, and tested the -d3d11 launch option, but the issue persists.
PC Specifications:
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
OS: Windows 10
Troubleshooting already attempted:
Reinstalled Fortnite twice.
Verified game files.
Updated NVIDIA drivers to the latest version.
Tested the -d3d11 launch option

Steps to Reproduce
Open Epic Games Launcher.
Launch Fortnite.
Wait for the game to start loading.
The game crashes during startup and displays the crash reporter with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error.
Expected Result
Fortnite should launch normally and reach the main menu without crashing.
Observed Result
Fortnite crashes during startup every time and displays the Unreal Engine crash reporter with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error referencing D3D12Core and FortniteClient_Win64_Shipping.
Fortnite received another update on PC about 10 minutes ago, but the issue is still not resolved. The game continues to crash during startup with the same error message.
Then delete the Config folder.
When you launch Unreal Editor/Fortnite again, the game will automatically recreate the folder and the crash should be gone.
The issue is probably caused by a corrupted configuration. The same thing happened to me and I fixed it this way.
Has there been any update on this issue? Many players are still experiencing the same crash, and it would be great if you could share any progress or possible fixes. @Bug-Reporter@Flak
I’m having the same problem and I updated all my driver’s and did pretty much everything I’ve seen changing to d3d12 to d3d11 in epic launcher to Windows configuration to Nvidia settings to deleting and verifying files nothing works same problem it’s like none of the guides or video guides been working I feel like giving up can epic games please fix this
I found the fix so in epicgames folder Fortnite Fortnitegame binaries win64 - delet folder d3d12 and it starts it’s because of direct 12 so just delete it and it will run thank me later hopefully they fix this issue
This person is right, however it is a temporary fix. The error may come back, at which point, you have to delete the file all over again. Furthermore, unsure if anyone has encountered this, but I will crash during a rift anomaly (presumably Safe Extraction) due to the fact it spawns shield bubbles. This is reminiscent of the last chapter/season where shield bubbles causes you to crash on Performance mode. Any fixes?
